Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry in Richmond, VA is a special interest and talent of Dr. Hamilton’s. He has been improving people’s smiles for over 25 years. During this time he has studied under leading cosmetic dentists from across the country. He has now brought his talents in cosmetic dentistry to Richmond, VA. A true artist, he will work hard to help you achieve the smile you desire.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are beautiful, thin restorations bonded to the front of teeth. Crooked teeth can be made to appear straightened and spaces can be closed. Dark teeth can be lightened. Preparation of your teeth is usually minimal or sometimes not required at all. You help select the shade you want and a mold is made. An artistic dental lab technician fabricates the veneers and Dr. Hamilton uses a special light to bond them in place. Once bonded, they are quite durable.

Bonding

This procedure can achieve many of the desired results of porcelain veneers. However this cosmetic procedure depends more on the skill and artistry of the dentist because the entire restoration is done in the dental chair. A broken or chipped tooth can be repaired to look just the way it was. Shades can be matched precisely. Spaces and dark or crooked teeth can be improved in one visit. After selecting a shade, the material is placed very carefully on the teeth and then hardened with a special light. At this point, Dr. Hamilton uses his talent to shape and polish each restoration to the desired shape and sheen. Bonding is a specialty of Dr. Hamilton.

All-Ceramic Crowns

Dr. Hamilton uses crowns made entirely of high-strength porcelain on all anterior cases. These restorations allow crowns to mimic real teeth. There is no metal to show a black line at the edge and light will reflect and pass through in a natural way. Dr. Hamilton spends plenty of time to choose the colors and shading and often will have the technician who will make the crown become involved. Only artistic lab technicians are chosen for the fabrication of these beautiful crowns.

Bruxzir Crowns

Dr. Hamilton’s favorite crown is Bruxzir.  BruxZir® Solid Zirconia is made from virtually unbreakable, biocompatible zirconia.  Because BruxZir dental zirconia has no porcelain overlay, it is more resistant to chipping, cracking or breaking in the mouth.  This makes BruxZir ideal for bruxers and grinders, who have broken their natural teeth or porcelain restorations in the past.

Dentists have long relied on full-cast gold and porcelain metal crowns & bridges for long-term durability and strength.  But with the introduction of BruxZir, an equally strong solution is now available.  What’s more, when compared side-by-side to full-cast gold and porcelain metal crowns, BruxZir zirconia crowns are the most natural-looking choice.

Whitening

Dr. Hamilton’s favorite way to whiten is to use custom-made home bleaching trays.  Custom trays are made from molds of your teeth.  This method is very effective and can be used alone or after whitening with Zoom.  Home whitening is done by placing the whitening gel in the trays and wearing for short periods of time.  We also begin the whitening process with a two week quick start treatment.  After this initial effective whitening occurs, a second bleach is used to continue the process.  This phase can be done as many times as you want without any detrimental affects on teeth or fillings and can also be used to periodically whiten as needed.  Results are well-controlled by the patient and the trays can be used for quite some time.  Dr. Hamilton has researched the Zoom method and concluded that the risks of sensitivity and pain, as well as expense, are not advantageous over the patient-controlled custom-made tray method.
